These are the standards, but custom is no problem — an unusual size can be exactly what makes a piece stand out. Whatever you choose, build the file with 1/8″ bleed and keep text inside the safe margin; our print file setup guide walks through it.

In the US, 3.5 by 2 inches. That size fits standard wallets and cardholders. European cards are slightly different at about 3.3 by 2.2 inches (85 by 55 mm). Square and rounded-corner cards are popular variations.
The most common is 8.5 by 11 inches (letter). Other frequent sizes are 5.5 by 8.5 (half page), 8.5 by 14 (legal), and 11 by 17 (tabloid). Choose based on how much content you have and how it will be handed out or displayed.
Common postcard sizes are 4 by 6, 5 by 7, and 6 by 9 inches. To qualify for the lower USPS postcard postage rate, a card must be no larger than 4.25 by 6 inches; bigger cards mail at letter rates. Our postcard size checker confirms which rate applies.
