Why do saddle-stitch booklets need a multiple of 4?

Each folded sheet creates four pages, two on each side. Stapling those nested sheets means the total page count always lands in multiples of 4 — 8, 12, 16, and so on. Blank pages can pad the count if your content doesn’t divide evenly.

How is perfect-bound spine width figured?

Roughly, the number of interior sheets times the paper’s caliper (thickness), plus the cover. Heavier or bulkier paper makes a thicker spine. We confirm the exact spine from your final stock before printing the cover.

Saddle-stitch or perfect binding?

Saddle-stitch (stapled) is economical for thinner booklets up to roughly 64 to 80 pages; perfect binding, a glued square spine, suits thicker books and looks like a paperback. We’ll recommend based on your page count and budget.
